Chronic Kidney Disease stages describe the gradual loss of kidney function over time and are classified into five stages based on the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Stage 1 shows kidney damage with normal function and few symptoms. Stage 2 involves a mild reduction in kidney performance. Stage 3, divided into 3A and 3B, reflects moderate decline with symptoms such as fatigue and swelling. Stage 4 indicates severe kidney damage requiring close medical care. Stage 5, known as end-stage kidney disease, represents kidney failure and requires dialysis or a kidney transplant for survival.
