Ama Dablam height is 6,812 metres (22,349 ft), and the number alone doesn’t tell you what the climb demands. The summit has roughly 40% less oxygen than sea level, and the route is rated Alpine TD. Climbers face mixed rock, ice and snow, including the near-vertical Yellow Tower, which needs UIAA Grade IV rock-climbing skill at altitude.
Trekyaari, a New Delhi-based expedition company, organises guided Ama Dablam climbs for experienced Indian mountaineers.
How we handle the altitude
- A trek in through the Khumbu Valley (Lukla, Namche, Tengboche, Pangboche) to Base Camp at 4,570 m
- Two acclimatisation rotations: Camp 1 at 5,700 m, then an overnight at Camp 2 at 6,000 m
- Pulse-oximeter monitoring by the Sherpa team and a clear descent protocol if readings drop
- No supplemental oxygen as a climbing aid, with an emergency cylinder kept at Base Camp for medical use only
Who it suits
Climbers with prior 6,000 m+ Himalayan experience. A sensible route is Stok Kangri → Island Peak → Lobuche East → Ama Dablam.
